Warning! More computer scams ahead

We are hearing frequently from our clients about screens like this one popping up when surfing the Internet. What do you do? Reboot your computer immediately! The only telephone number you should call is your trusted IT professional (San Diego BOS Techs).

Pop up screens like this show up when you accidently misspell a website, any website. These hackers actually purchase Domain names similar to popular websites just with a slight misspelling.

If you call the number on the screen they will talk you into providing your credit card number and letting them remote into your computer to “clean it up” in other words “to let them infect your computer and steal your personal information”.

There is something about a flashing error message and a toll free number that entices the savviest user into calling the telephone number or at least thinking about it.

Also, hackers are relentlessly calling people telling them they are Microsoft, Windows, or Apple and that they have received complaints of viruses on your computer.  Microsoft, Windows and Apple will NEVER call you. Neither will the IRS.

Computers users BEWARE, whenever something suspicious happens on your computer call your IT professional only.
